In response to the rapid
evolution of technology, FEU Diliman’s AI in Action program aims to
harness the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for
sustainable community development in the Philippines. Guided by the Triple
Bottom Line (People, Planet, and Profit), this initiative combines academic
expertise with community-driven solutions to address critical challenges in
governance, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
Through this program, university
students and faculty(faculties)collaborate to transfer AI-powered solutions to
underserved barangays (villages communities), enhancing public services,
improving resource management, and fostering self-reliant and resource-based
communities. Inspired by global best practices from institutions like MIT,
Stanford, and UC Berkeley, AI in Action ensures the adoption of
cutting-edge AI tools tailored to local needs.
A mixed-methods research approach
evaluates the program’s impact, integrating quantitative methods (descriptive
statistics, regression analysis) with qualitative methods (thematic analysis,
focus group discussions). These methods provide essential insights to guide
decision-making and maximize the benefits of AI in addressing community
challenges.
The programs' long-term goal is to replicate its success across the Philippines by establishing AI as a cornerstone for inclusive development. With FEU Diliman at the forefront, the initiative highlights the transformative potential of AI while fostering collaboration between academics and local communities by improving governance, boosting local economies, and enhancing environmental sustainability.
